The legendary soviet yachtsman Valentin Mankin arrives in Moscow on the 2nd of December 2010 for the ‘Sailor of the Year 2010 National Award’ ceremony. Currently he resides in Italy where he has been living for a long time now.
Valentin Grigoryevich Mankin (born 19.08.38) is an acclaimed soviet yachtsman, threefold Olympic Champion, repeated world and Europe champion, Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR, Honoured Coach of the USSR, repeated USSR champion of different yacht types’ races from 1959 to 1981. He is the only yachtsman in the world to take Olympic gold in three different classes, which are the Finn, the Star and the Tempest classes.
The ‘Sailor of the Year 2010’ National Sailing Award ceremony will be held on the 2nd of December in the ‘Forum Hall’ celebration rooms (Moscow, Letnikovskaya str, 11/10). The guests are invited to gather starting from 7 p.m., the Forum Hall’s parking lot will be open.
The award is organized by the Russian Sailing Association and the Yacht Russia magazine, with the support of the Managers’ Association. The award’s general partner is the Volkswagen automobile brand.
